KID POWER AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING
In January 2008 we started an after-school tutoring program namned Kid Power Tutoring Program. Tutoring is offered on Monday and Wednesday afternoons each week throughout the academic school year. The focus of this program is to give children living in El Rio/Nyeland Acres, and who come from homes that speak primarily Spanish or Mixtec, an opportunity to get help with their homework and improve skills.
Healthy snacks are provided as the need for nutrition is so pervasive. We recognize that in some cases this may be the best opportunity to provide healthy nutrition to some of the children. Admission to this program is by appointment only.
As our experience and network grows we envision expanding our education programs to include vocational training, assistance with job searching, connecting residents with local employers, and other education assistance for the adults of the community.
